The three things I learned are:
1. Media is different from most careers because you don’t have a starting sport. Graduating with a media degree doesn’t mean you will have a job. Getting a job is attainable but hard.
2. Do everything people with more experience across the field will get hired over someone without it.
3. Find your passion, never say no, take every opportunity, work hard, and don’t miss deadlines.

The three things that I learned was:
1) Learn a variety of different skills like video editing to make yourself more marketable to employers.
2) Never turn down an oppurtunity no matter what it is.
3) Video is the future of the industry.

I learned a lot of great things today from our speakers.
1) Unfortunately, we are not guaranteed jobs with just a college degree.
2) People aren’t advertising like they used to so in order to get paid the salary you want, you must learn cross platforming techniques.
3)Lastly, find you niche and NEVER say no.

What I learned from BJ Koubaroulis and Drew Phelps’ presentation:
1. Goals are attainable but it’s hard. Be sure to network. Sometimes you have to make job choices instead of making career choices at first. Start small with a company and work your way up.
2. If you want to be a sports writer, start out with high school.
3. Listen to people who critique your voice to get better.

1. All sportswriters start out covering the high schools.
2. Since financial backing for media is not what it was, working across many platforms is necessary.
3. Video is the future of the industry. A game-winning shot in a basketball game can not be captured in a written story like it can be with video.

1. Writing will always provide you with a good foundation in journalism, but it’s important to realize that the industry is going to video. You can be an excellent sports writer, but if you don’t have video skills in today’s market, you’re not going to make it very far.
2. Because there is not a lot of financial backing in media nowadays, young journalists must be prepared to work across multiple media platforms in order to support themselves. Compliments of the Internet, it’s important to remember that most of the content produced by the media is now free.
3. My favorite piece of advice from today: Take what you’re given, and run with it. If you really want to go far in this industry, you can. But more than anything, you’ve got to work hard and not complain.

The three things I learned:
1. Never say ‘NO’.
2.Don’t always expect what you thought you were going to do, you will do.
3.It takes a long time to get to be able to work for the Yankees, and sports teams.

The three things I learned were:
1. Genuine relations with people help your career.
2. There is not a lot of money in media right now. You need to be able to do the job of 9 other people. The industry is moving towards video.
3. Find your niche, never say no, don’t complain, and be smart.

1. You must be able to perform in cross-platform media to be successful – can’t be just one type.
2. Genuine relationships with people are hard to come by, but are worth it in the long run. Will help you in your career if you are real and not fake.
3. Videos show what words can not – the basketball coach jumping for joy with his teammates.

I learned a great amount from B.J. Koubaroulis and Drew Phelps. The three things that I found to be the most useful were:
1. Learning all of the different aspects of cameras and programs such as “Final Cut Pro” is essential if you wish to pursue a career in sports media and video.
2. In this career field, you have to start small and work your way up. High school sports is a great place to start, and is often where a beginner will end up.
3. Video is taking over. No matter how good a writer you are, you can’t physically show a game-winning shot.

I learned
With media you’re not entitled to a job because you graduated from college.
Versatility is key to be successful.

I was privileged to see B.J Koubaroulis and Drew Phelps in this class and my sports media class on the same day. I also learned three helpful advices if I need to work in sports media.
1) Never take no for an answer, when you get a opportunity, take advantage of it.
2) Journalists need to multitask more often then ever before. The media landscape has changed greatly and writers can’t just report the story, write about it and go home.
3) You have to start something small like an internship or covering high school sports to gain experience and work your way up the ladder.

The three things I learned were:
1. If someone gives you an opportunity, take it! Don’t say no.
2. You need to start small, with high school sports, for example, and grow and learn from there.
3. Writing is good, but video is priceless. With video, you really get a sense of the person and are able to capture the moment.

Three things I learned were:
1. Working in the sports industry is difficult but attainable.
2. You can’t only do one job, you have to be a modern day renaissance (wo)man and be able to utilize both print and web stories, video, online social networking like Twitter and Facebook to reach to an audience use cross-platforming to reach the most amount of people.
3. Networking is the best way to meet people and find opportunities to work. However, that is not to be confused with using someone, be sure to not cross that line.

The three things I learned from BJ Koubaroulis and Drew Phelps:
1. No matter how good of a writer you are, you will never be able to convey some of the emotions and actions that take place in video.
2. Find your niche, NEVER say no, and don’t miss a deadline.
3. Division 3 programs are more starved for attention than Division 1 programs, and therefore allow reporters to get closer to players and coaches.

1. Don’t feel entitled to a positions because you have a degree.
2. Start writing in high school sports, that is the most likely way to become successful as a sports writer.
3. Using video is the way to convey emotion that writing otherwise can not capture.

Three things I learned from BJ and Drew:
1. If you know how to edit and shoot video, you can start your own company.
2. Knowing how to edit and shoot video is key in order to get an internship.
3. High school sports is probably where you will start.

1. People in the media have to do several jobs including writing, reporting, shooting video, and editing video.
2. Never say no to a job because that job could lead you to another job that you really want.
3. Video is very important, even in the newspaper busniess, because it can show the audience all the emotion that a writer is trying to portray.
