    Three things I learned from Jim today were:
    1)The job of a web editor includes many things, from editing to writing your own stories.

    1. The importance of embedding video on different websites like the now-infamous interview Mayor Fenty did on News4. It draws eyeballs to your content.

    2. The line between editing and writing is blurred in the newsroom, or the “content center” as it is now known.

    3. Some of the content producers never set foot in the newsroom, such as freelancers.

    What I learned from Jim Iovino:

    1. If you’re a beat writer, they don’t want you in the office. You should be out talking to people and getting the latest news.

    2. Social media is bigger than ever. Twitter is helping people find out more information rather than waiting for the mainstream media to tell us.

    3. Although TV media is a good source for people to get their information, you can find more up-to-date information on the website.

    1. No matter what aspect of sports that you are interested in it is important to do whatever you can in the business.

    2. Using Twitter is the way of the future, set up an account.

    3. Keeping videos short online is important. Most people will not sit through long video clips online.

    The three things I learned from Jim Iovino:

    1. The medium of broadcast isn’t just about the television anymore, just like print isn’t just about the newspaper anymore. Content producers now work with newscasters in the “Content Center” to produce stories.

    2. NBC has over 10 markets, but has over 300 affiliates.

    3. It is not good for a reporter to always be in the office answering the phone. As a reporter, it is your job to find stories any way possible. This often requires you to be on the set of a story or at least in the midst of things.

    1. The people they want working at the station are people that have skills in a variety of fields, and not in just one concentration

    2. When putting up a video, it’s a good thing to put the embedded tag somewhere on that page so other people can place that video on other pages, allowing for the work the station has done to be seen at a higher level

    3. Depending on what your job is at the station, it could be a better way to show your doing your job by not even being there

    Although I was not in class for Jim, I have read the above comments and have learned 3 things:
    1. Television companies are moving to expand on the web and make the internet the biggest resource for media.
    2. Find stories about what is interesting today, not old news.
    3. A reporter should not have an office, they should be out discovering stories.

    I learned

    A. Do as much as possible now because you never know what you’ll end up doing.

    B. Every new media source has to through advancement stages to ultimately become what they are when they are successful.

    C. Its better to be out getting information and talking to people, rather than sitting in my office. Good words for my professional life.

    Three things that I learned from Jim Iovino’s presentation were:

    1. A decade or two ago, it was unheard of for people to have press passes. There were no bloggers at games.

    2. Videos make websites better and more interactive. It is especially helpful for users to find and watch news reports that they may have missed. Secondly, videos gain publicity when they get picked up by local blogs.

    3. A reporter shouldn’t spend a lot of time in their office. They should be out on the streets interviewing people and writing stories.

    Three things I learned from Jim Iovino:

    1. Do as much as you can working with different mediums because you never know where you’re going to end up.

    2. You have to keep up with social media to stay competitive. Everyone’s using it and it’s just a part of the business now.

    3. At first News 4 (as probably many other TV stations did as well), thought that the online section of the channel was competing with the station. Now they understand that it’s just another platform and only contributes to viewers of the station.
